When most people hear the last name of Hart, they usually think of the famous Hart Wrestling Family. Ok, not everyone will, but a lot of people do. I am one of them.
As many people know the family was headed by the famous Stu and Helen, the parents of 12, that's right 12 kids. The list of kids are Smith, Bruce, Keith Wayne, Dean, Ellie, Georgia, Bret, Allison, Ross, Diana, and Owen.
Many of the kids went on to become wrestlers or marry wrestlers. Bret and Owen were the two most famous of them all. Ellie married Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart, whose daughter Natalia is a wrestler. Also, Diana married The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. Their son, Harry (D.H.)is a wrestler.
This DVD is an excellent documentary type thing. Many wrestling fans will enjoy it
The movie that I just finished watching was Steve Odekerk's The Godthumb. This movie is a parody of The Godfather. The only difference is that instead of using people, thumbs are used. Yeah, those things that protrude off the side of both your hands.
The Godthumb allows us to see inside the world of organized crime run by the thumbs of the underworld. To me this film is ridiculous, yet funny. It allows the viewer to see that you don't need people to make a good movie. All you need is some hard work and a little imagination.
Odekerk has done many more of these film; so I suggest that you go out buy these and watch them. For once will you non film students believe me.
On Monday June 21, 2010, I watched the Spike Lee film Jungle Fever starring Wesley Snipes and John Tutorro. This film tells the story about an American woman of Italian decent (who is white), who falls in love with Wesley Snipes' character of Flipper who is black and happens to be married. She does this after she breaks up with her boyfriend played by Tutorro.
After finding out about this Angela's father and brothers are not happy that she is dating a black man. They feel that it is a "crime" against "their people." what Lee is trying to say in a way, is that is very ignorant that people think like this.
The thing that makes the whole situation is that Flipper is married and has a daughter. Also, he has an overly religious father Ossie Davis, a mother who just sees good Ruby Dee, and a crackhead brother Samuel L. Jackson.
I must say this is an awesome movie, because it shows how people can still be ignorant, and not accept people for who they are not what they look like.
Today I watched the Kelsey Grammer movie Down Periscope. This is a film I saw for the first time many years ago, and thought it was funny even though I was 11 and didn't get all the jokes in it. At first when I saw Down Periscope I guess the main thing I found funny was the chit-chat about where Kelsey Grammer's character of Tom had a tattoo. Any guesses on where it is.
The movie this time seemed funnier, because not of the joke, which were good, but because of how the film moved and the story was told.It was also good, because of the characters as well. Rob Schinder's character of Marty was great because of how everyone kept picking on him and making fun of him.
I know that the people who saw this movie, who knows how many, may have different views, but some can say it was funny. I got some laughs out of it. Hope in the future that this film can become a cult classic. That's all I have to say this time around.
On Friday I saw Toy Story 3 with my pal Anthony. I say it was an okay movie, but it was more of those senitmental movies to say hte least. Some people may agree with and some may not, but what ever the case is let me know. It involved the same characters of Buzz, Woody, Rex, and the rest.
While watching the movie, in 3-d no less, it had me thinking. Why couldn't the story be a little different. Why couldn't Andy already have been at college? Why couldn't he have to deal with someone taking the toys? I guess that's just my way of thinking about that. I wonder how many people think that I am super crazy for thinking that way.
Seeing TS3 in 3-d made the experience a little bit better, but it was weird seeing these characters bounce off the screen. Thats all i have to say about that.
This is just one of my random nonsense post. It's about nothing in particular. I just feel like writing about what ever bothers me with movies. I know that sounds weird, but that's what I want to do with this blog tonight.
I know everyone enjoys their own type of movies, but my question is why don't people listen to the guy who's a film major about what movie to see. Ya see, I have this little theory. It works like this, I can tell whether or not a movie is good just by watching the trailer. Most people don't listen to me when I tell them, but it's their loss, and $13.00 down the drain.
When I tell them that a movie is going to be bad they are "why didn't you tell me?" I did tell ya, but you didn't listen ya dullard. But you have to remember that these people that I'm talking to don't understand the word dullard, so that tells you what they know doesn't.
The Book: And Then There Were None. The movie: And Then There Were None. The person responsible: Agatha Christie.
The story tells us about 8 people who travel to a secluded island and meet the maid and the butler. (For those of you wondering, there's your ten people). While on their way to the island we see a one shot of each person, to get an idea of their background.
As the movie goes on, everyone is introduced to each other and to us as the audience. We find out that they were all invited to the island by a Mr. U. N. Owen. They are all on the island wondering when they are going to me this Owen. While we are watching we must pay attention, because we have to figure out who Owen is and if anyone survives.
I'm not going to ruin this for you, so my suggestions go out and rent it. From 1-10 it's am 8.75
Just recently I finished watching My Bloody Valentine. I must say I understood what was happening and what was going on. One of the things that made that movie was boring, was the pacing of the story. The pacing was so slow. I mean slower than a snail. Don't get me wrong a like thriller/scary movies as much as the next person, but this didn't do a damn thing for me.
Go ahead and disagree with me and tell me you like film. That I don't mind, but what is the point of remaking this film. Alls I have to say is that this is one of the worst remakes ever. Many people may disagree with that, and feel free too, but again I'll think that you are nuts. OK here is where I get crap for saying people are crazy for liking this remake. Why are my opinions dumber and far more "stupid" than everyone else?
There is nothing else that I can possibly say about this film. On a scale of 1-10 it doesn't register. Good day sirs and ladies.
Today at about three o'clock this morning, I was watching Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star on the TV. I am writing about this movie, because of the funny-ness of it. There are a few reasons why I think this movie is funny, even though many people do not.
Reason one: It shows what happens to child stars after they grow up, and they become "regular people." This is funny because it shows that they feel forgotten, and have to struggle just like everyone else. The only difference is that their struggle is a bit different from that of your Average Joe. Example of that is our struggle is to pay the bills; their struggle is to get another movie gig. Interesting isn't.
Another reason i enjoy this film is because it shows all these child stars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s who are in this movie to make it more life like, and really show us their struggle which I mentioned in the about example. Some of those actors/actresses are Leif Garrett, Dustin "Screech" Diamond, Barry "Greg Brady" Williams, Erin "Joanie Cunningham" Moran, Maureen "Marcia Brady" McCormick, and of course my favorite 70s star Fred "Rerun" Berry.
Now getting back to David Spade. This movie was perfect for Spade in my opinion, for one reason and one reason only, it is his first attempt to funny with out Chris Farley. I think that he achieved this feat. To me and some people who may agree with this, it was hard for Spade to attempt anything funny after the death of friend and comic genius Chris Farley. I can honestly say that I don't blame him. If you lost your best friend in a business world that you work in, you probably wouldn't don anything in that field for a while.
I know I write this random blogs every once in a while. Yes, I know that there are people out there who read these things and some who don't. Right now, I am going to just continue to write my blogs whether or not people like them.
Now let me do what I came here to do. I am here to write a random movie blog. I don't know exactly what it is going to be about, but it can be done and it will be done.
This is just my random blog about how I love bad movies. I'm not talking about the bad movies that are just so bad that, that's all they are. I am talking about the bad movies that are so bad that they are good (ie Masters of the Universe, and the original Clash of the Titans).
Go ahead this is where you my readers, no matter how many of you are out there, tell me: Joe, you are crazy! I say ok, but at least my bad movies are better than your bad movies. Disagree with me all you want. Hell, even piss and moan like an impotent jerk whose going to take it up the tail pipe, until you go blue in the face; but what I am getting at is that I am right and you are wrong. I hope I've made that crap clear.
What I am tring to say is: I LOVE BAD MOVIES THAT ARE SO BAD THAT THEY ARE AWESOME! Remember that!
Today I saw the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. I know movies will be remade; there are certain ones that will never, and ones that shouldn't. This is one of them. Don't get me wrong, the story line was decent, the story flowed, there was some tension, and you got dragged into the film.
While watching this movie there was one thing that I was thinking. That thought was Bad News Bears. The 1970s version of course. The reason why I say that is because the Freddy was played by Jackie Earl Haley, who played Kelly in the original BNBs.
Also, I couldn't believe Haley as Kruger because I guess the make-up and how he played the role. In this case, I'm sorry, nobody, and I mean nobody can stand up to Robert Englund. I know this sounds biased, but doesn't most of what I say, but he can't.
For me the make-up mad Haley look like a burnt skinless cat. Wow, nice opinion there! I know, but we live in a country where we can say what we want.
When we see this symbol, we all know that it stands for the Dark Knight, The Caped Crusader, that's right Batman!
Through out the course of movie history, there have been many different Batman movies, starring many different actors. Some actors who have played Batman are Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and many more.
I am writing about this Batman movie because it was one of my favorites. The reason why it was, is because of how creepy Danny Devito portrayed the Penguin. I know that no one can compare to Burgess Meredith from the Batman TV show, but Danny Devito comes in a close second.
Moving on to other characters in the movie, Michelle Pfeiffer wasn't the greatest Catwoman, but neither was Halle Berry, but thats besides the point. Pfeiffer didn't really make the role of Catwoman believeable. Talking about not having charcters not be believeable, Micheal Keaton was really not the best Batman in my mind.
While watching this movie, I loved how the sets looked grey and dark. This gave the film a really, really creepy feel. The color gives a feeling of darkness and sadness at the same time. For most comic book movies this doesn't work, but in this case it does.
Again, these are my feelings, and I'm sticking to them!!
Like everyone else, when I hear Mortal Kombat, I think of a video game not a movie. Some people might say unfortunatley it's both. Well, I just say it's both.
Most people might tell me, "Hey I didn't like this movie." To that I would respond: "listen to me now, and believe me later, this is not about what you think." Then they get mad at me, but honestly like Mortal Kombat. Yes, it maybe a movie base on a video game. Yes, it might show you characters that you know about. Yes, it brought in some characters from the second game into the first movie. Why? I can't tell you.
The main reason why I liked this movie was because it was one of the first well done video game to movie movies done at the time. It made the experience even better when you saw it. Another thing that made it great was that they had all of the original MK characters in it. For those of you who don't know, they are: Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Kano, Johnny Blade, Rayden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and the two main bosses were Shang Tsung, & Gorro.
I know that there are people out there who agree with me, and people who don't. I know some people will respect my thoughts, and some who won't. I just want to say fine, be that way; keep wasting you money on shitty movies that only stupid people see.
Other than his father, what's the first thing people think of when they hear Brandon Lee? Answer: The Crow.
Yes, I know I've written about this film before, but I just wanted to touch on it again. The Crow is a great film in general. The film tells a story of guitarist Eric Draven and his girlfriend Shelly Webster. The two are killed on what was called "Devil's Night," which is the night before Halloween; which is when Eric and Shelly were supposed to get married.
One year after the death of both Eric and Shelly, a crow lands on Eric's grave. This allows Eric to come back to life, and avenge his and Shelley's death. Throughout the movie Eric goes after the four criminals: T-Bird, Tin Tin, Skank, and Funboy. He goes after them for killing him and raping and beating Shelly.
I feel that this story tells a really good story and will drag you into to see how things happen and when they will.
Many people have heard the phrase, "Speak no evil, hear no evil, See no evil." That I am sure of. The reason I bring this up, is because of the movie See No Evil.
This movie tells the story of jailbirds who have to go and clean an old hotel, as their community service. What they don't know is that there is a crazy psychopath living in the hotel, named Jacob Goodnight (Kane).
Here is a little back story on Jacob. He is a killer, who as a child lived with an overly religious mother who told him that everything was wrong. To make sure that the criminals knew what they were doing, he wanted to rip their eyes out, so they could "see" what they had done wrong.
This is a movie that will give you a scare, but be ready for some gruesomeness.
I know there are many different types of movies out there in this world; yes, I know I have my favorites, and everyone else has theirs, but there are movies that are just wrong. Don't get me wrong, I know people have their own tastes, but why do people argue with the film major, about films. By arguing with me they tell me what they think of a movie, or that a certian movie looks good because of the trailer. They get mad when I tell them that the movie will not because of the actors or the effects, or whatever else might be wrong.
This argument happens between me and whoever has an idea of going to see a shitty movie. I honestly try and tell people "don't see that movie." I also tell them "you're wasting you money!" it just seems that they don't want to listen. It seems like the guy who is the film major, has no idea what he's talking about. Like I can't try and save you money, the trip and the time from seeing a bad movie that you're going to complain about. I know these people, who shall remain nameless, will tell me "why didn't you tell me?" "that movie was crap!" To those comments I just respond "I'm not trying to toot my own horn, toot toot, but I told ya so!'
To give an example about a movie that looks horrible is the remake of Clash of the Titans. One person told me it "has potential" to which I replied, "no it doesn't." Maybe people don't like my opinion, but it is as good as anyone else's. I know this person thinks that my opinion sucks, but I respect his, but I don't know what he has to say about mine.
Most kids today, have really awesome movies. I'll give them that, they do have some cool movies. One movie that came out not to long ago, was TMNT, or for those of you who don't know, that stands For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was a movie based on the cartoon that had come out while I was a wee lad (not that I was ever wee). I just want to remind anyone reading this, the two of you that I know of, that the original Turtles movie came out in 1990. Way before the newer version was even thought of.
Most who are or around my age will come to appreciate the original Ninja Turtle movies that were made. Yes, there were three of them. Those will be talked about another time. This movie tells the story of four turtles, who are all named after artists. They are Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. That is the thing that most people didn't get. They were trained by Splinter, their master, who was a giant rat.
To stay hidden from society, and their enemies, they lived in the sewers of what was New York City. The enemies that they were hiding from were The Shredder, and his Foot Clan. They were hiding in the sewers, because they did not want Shredder to know that they had any affiliation with news reporter April O'Neil.
I don't want to go on any further, because I want you to go out and relive your childhood and have a good time.
Many people are into crazy things. One of those crazy things that people are into is finding Bigfoot. That is exactly what the character of Donner (Jason Lee) really wants to do. This all comes about when only one of the groups gets money on "Welfare Wednsday."
After this happen Donner, Az (Jason Mewes) and the rest of the group start to make a trip to "find a Cabin" that Donner's Uncle "owns" in the woods of British Columbia, Canada.
What the rest of the group doesn't know is that they are being led on a wild goose chase in order to find Bigfoot. After a while, the group catches on, and finds out that they've been had and gives up on Donner, and leaves him in the middle of the woods.
If there's one thing this movie teaches me, it's make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. Along with that I must say that this is one hell of a first movie by Malcolm Ingram and Matt Gissing.
Maybe I am the only one who thinks this way, but Mallrats needs some respect. I know that there are many people out there who don't agree with me, and that's ok. I also know deep down in my heart, that there are Kevin Smith fans who do.
Most of us who have seen this movie know the story. For those of you who don't, here it goes: Two guys T.S. and Brody, both get dumped by their girlfriends. As a result of the dumpings, they go to the mall. While they are there, they see Brodie's ex-girlfriend Rene, dating the proprioter of the Fashionable Male. T.S. knows that his ex is going on a dating show for her father, because the original contestant died of an embolism, while doing laps in the YMCA pool.
While everything is happening Brodie and T.S. hire Jay and Silent Bob to be their hatchet-men. Why might you ask? The reason is because Brodie and T.S. don't want the show to take place.
I will leave the rest of the story anonymous. What I'm saying is, go watch it and tell me wheter or not you can repsect this film
I honestly cannot believe that Hollywood has remade a horribly bad, yet classic movie Clash of the Titans. When I was out seeing Cop Out, I saw the posters for it and thought I was seeing things. Then it happened! I saw the preview for Clash of the Titans.
My first thoughts were: "What the hell is Hollywood thinking?" It made me made me extremely upset because you can not replace Harry Hamlin, Burgess Meredith, and Sir Laurence Olivier.
I can't really understand why this would happen! This infuriates me to no end! Why in the hell would this happen?
Today I saw the new Kevin Smith film Cop Out, starring Tracy Morgan (Brian Fellow) and Bruce Willis (aka Bruno). I just want to say that enjoyed Willis in the Die Hard movies, but I am not really a Tracy Morgan fan, but the one thing that I can say is that these two men were freaking hillarious together.
Let me say that I was pretty psyched to see this film. The reason why I say this, is because I am a big Kevin Smith fan. Call me biased if you will..... OK there I waited, hoped you did it.
Now on to further matters, I must say that this movie really made me laugh multiple times. Most of the time I laughed it was because of Morgan, who as I said I am not a fan of. His reaction, to what happened or to Willis made the movie work. The same thing with Willis worked as well.
Many people who have seen Paranormal Activity told me, "Joe it's a scary movie. It'll make you scream cry, and possibly wet yourself!" I gave them a look in my attempt to say "are you sh*tting me!" I knew that wouldn't happen, but these co-workers kept insisting that it would. I would tell them that a movie like this wouldn't do that, because I have seen so many horror movies, and it takes a lot to scare the crap out of me.
I held out as long as I could without seeing Paranormal Activity, but last week I cave and got the DVD, and watched it. This is one of those movies where you could feel the tension building, but it was a big let down, because all the times, where I was supposed to be scared, I wasn't.
I just have to say that this film was a big let down in the horror/drama/thriller category. I feel that this movie could've been a hell of a lot better. I don't know if I was the only one let down by this, but I did not enjoy this.
As many people know, there are always rules to everykind of movie out there; including the horror movie. Last night, while I was at the bar for wings, I was having a conversation with a couple of guys, who are weekly patrons like me, about certain movies, and the rules that are usually followed. Yes, we all agreed that these rules are followed whenever you watch a horror movie, yes, any horror movie.
The four of us stated that there were at least five count'em five rules that are followed in every horror movie, that you will see, or that you have ever heard of. The reason why these rules, which I will get to in a few, are followed, is because if one type of formula works, hey stick with it.
Rule 1) The "minority" must die before the movie is over! The reason why this is one of the rules is because of a few things. One of the reasons why the minority will dies is because they are 1-stupid enough to go after the killer; 2-They always split up or get separated from the rest of the group; 3-They have to be the "hero;" 4-they leave the scene so you know they die the second they leave.
Rule 2) The Virgin Dies! Why? Because the dumbass has nobody or nothing to preoccupy their time with. They wonder off from the group because every one else is having sex (I get to this group soon), and they feel uncomfortable. Another reason is because they want to see if the "myths" they've heard about were true (ie. the remake of Friday the 13th).
Rule 3) The couple having sex dies! The reason for this has to be obvious. Do I really need to go into this? Answer: Yes! The main reason why they so is simple. They seperate from the group, start getting it on, and one hears something and the guy has to check it out, guy is killed, girl is killed.
Rule 4) The topless girl dies? Simply because nobody goes skinny dipping by themselves. Question: when something happens why do they think it is a friend.
Rule 5) The killer catches up to them. They think that the killer (ie Jason, Pinhead, Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, and Chucky) are dead and they run away. Somehow unbeknownst to the viewer, the killer finds a way to some how catch up, and try and kill them, but the person gets saved.
Yesterday, on the news, I heard an interesting story, involving the man above. Some of you might know who he is, and some of you might not. The man above is director/actor Kevin Smith. While on a flight that he decided to take, he was asked to exit the plane, because he did not fit in the seat. This doesn't seem right.
Usually Smith will tell you that on a flight he will but two seats because he is a larger gentleman like myself. The only reason why he didn't this time was because he decided to leave earlier than normal. If someone is larger, like Smith, couldn't the attendants have shifted some people around so he could fit instead of embarrassing him.
This is honestly a load of shit to treat a somewhat famous director like this!!!!!!!
I know most people are wondering "what does football have to do with movies?" This is what I am about to tell you. Football comes into play, because I am going to talk about the football film Rudy starring Sean Astin, son of John "Gomez Adams" Astin, and Patty Duke, as Dan "Rudy" Ruettiger (SP?).
I am writing this blog about Rudy, considering that the Super Bowl (which the Saints won) took place. I am writing this blog to show that if one person or team works hard enough, they can accomplish their dreams. This is what happened to Rudy (Astin), and to the Saints in Miami on February 7, 2010.
I bring up that point because in the film, it tells the story about how Rudy (Astin) wants to play football for Notre Dame, but is told that he is not good enough, big enough and just can't make it. So, Rudy decides to prove everyone wrong, just like the Saints, and makes it to Notre Dame, and works at accomplishing his dreams.
Rudy proving that he can accomplish his dreams, is just like the Saints accomplishing their dreams and winning the Super Bowl of February 7, 2010. They fought and fought, just like Rudy, past every obstacle, competitor, and person who tries to hold them down and prove that they couldn't do it. I say that, because that is exactly what happened in both cases.
Hey if you want to disagree, go right ahead. If you want to agree, go right ahead, tell me I want to hear it.
This is a topic that I have yet to touch on. I guess I chose war movies, because they are a type of movie that catch my attention. I don't remember when it started. Maybe it was around my junior year of high school, after having an awesome history teacher . Now back to the topic. I guess watching all these war movies make you think and show you what all of the people in the military have gone through while serving this country that we call home or what ever country is called home.
One of the first war movies that I will admit to enjoying is Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon. It tells the story of D-Day or June 6, 1944, when U.S. Soldiers stormed the beaches at Normandy. Not only does it do that, it tells the story of an army platoon (headed by Hanks) who has to go out and find Pvt. James F. Ryan, to tell him that he is being sent home from active duty at that time. The reason is because all of his brothers who were serving in the same platoon were all killed and he was the only one out of the five (?) who survived. (That part was actually happened in another branch, and the rule was put into affect that they can serve in the same branch, but not the same platoon.)
The platoon looking for Ryan runs into some trouble when a few of their men are killed. That's only the small problem. The biggest problem is when they actually find Ryan. Why is that the biggest problem you ask? They find the person with the right name but from the wrong state. They Found James F. Ryan from Minnesota, not Iowa.
The second one is Pearl Harbor. This tells about the Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval base in Hawaii. It also tells the story of two friends who want to go into the service together. It is an interesting film that tells a story about the times and days leading up to December 7, 1941--The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Both of these movies make me have more respect for the people who serve and fight for their countries during war time
This blog is going to be a little bit different. Today I am going to try and talk about movie stars. I mean there are many different stars, ranging from Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton, to Ben Afflack and Matt Damon. Yes, I know all four of these actors are very diffrerent from each other, but they all bring enjoyment to people no matter what period of time you live in.
First I am going to start with Chaplin and Keaton. Both of these men were very big actors in the silent movie era. Yes folks, there was a time when movie had no sound and they were in black and white.
Chaplin was originally a vaudeville actor born in England. His most famous character was known as "The Tramp." Chaplin was an actor who was and still loved by many even today. He made many films such as The Immigrant, One AM, and his most famous The Great Dictator, which he made to poke fun at German Dictator Adolph Hitler.
Buster Keaton was a big film star at the same time as Chaplin. Keaton made such movies as The General, Sherlock Jr., and many more. Keaton earned the nickname of "Stone Face." He got the name because he hardly ever showed emotion whatsoever while on screen.
These actors paved the way for such other actors as Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, and many more leading to the stars that we have today.
Many of these are great because of certain films that they have made and will always be remembered for them and for that they are appriciated!
Most people don't realize that one of the funniest movies around is This is Spinal Tap. This a mockumentary about a British Band that is touring for their comeback and they want to be known again. As they are touring they run into a bunch of problems along the way, like all the band members winding up with a cold sore on their lips, getting lost in an arena, and much more. The movie starts Rob Reiner (from All in the Family), Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer (The Simpsons), and Michael McKean (Lenny from Lenny Squiggy, and SNL). All of these men worked on writing the movie about the fictitious band.
Shearer, McKean, and Guest play the main characters: Nigel, David, and Derrick. We get to follow them around as the band tours, and as it starts to fall apart again. After watching this movie, and getting to see The Tap Live May 26, 2009, they grow on you even more even though they are not a real band.
Many people may disagree with me that this is a great film that will make you laugh, but I bet there are more people who will agree with me. Many people have seen this film and many people have loved it, and I am one of them!
So I suggest people go out and see this film and have a good time with it. So out of 10 stars I give this film a 10.
The Taking of Pelham 123 (Original) When most people think of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, they think of the film staring Denzel Washington, not Walter Matthau. I just wanted to say, having seen both versions of the film, through my honest opinion, I think the original is much better than the remake. Many people may disagree with me on this, but as I've learned growing up in life, everyone has their own opinion. There are a few reasons why I think the original is better than the remake. I will get to those very shortly. Again, most people have to remember that the original version of The Taking of Pelham 123 was done in the 1970s, which means that this version is definitely going to be more over the top than the remake was in the summer of 2009. One of the first reasons why I believe that this version is better is because of the cast that appears in this movie. Starting off, the star of the film is Walter Matthau as Zachary Garber. With Matthau as the lead in this film, you know that something can and will always happen. Not only that, he will somehow get his way, whether other people want him to or not. Also in the cast for this film is Martin Balsam, who some people may remember as the foreman in the Henry Fonda film 12 Angry Men. Balsam plays the character of Mr. Green. He is the second in command to Mr. Blue on the job to hijack a New York City train. He is the only one who winds up getting caught. Why? Go ahead I'll wait while you ask yourself. OK the answer, he has a cold and is heard sneezing over the radio on the train a few times by Matthau's character. This is what gets him caught, as I mentioned before. Another famous name is Jerry Stiller. Of course as many people know is the father of actor Ben. As the film goes along we find out that he is one of the transit officers working along with Garber. His is Garber's second in command. Earl Hindman, who most people remember as Wilson W. Wilson, Jr., or simply Wilson, from the TV Show Home Improvement makes an appearance as Mr. Blue. You can tell that it is him by the sound of his voice. While watching this movie, I couldn't buy Hindman as a criminal of any kind. All of these different people helped make this movie over the top, eccentric, and suspenseful. Let's see if you agree with me.
As I've stated before, I think that Stanley Kubrick is a genius. If I haven't, Stanley Kubrick is a genius. The Shining is a great movie. This movie, like many of Kubrick's other movie, screws with your head and makes you think about one thing and something else happens. I think that this film is great! The reason is the cast, which is headed by the legendary Jack Nicholson. He makes this movie just about, or even more scary than it should be. I say this because, The Shining makes you stay on edge the entire time that you are watching it. It makes you feel like you could possibly be next on Jack Torrance's list of people to talk too. The Shining made me feel like I was the camera person on the set, and that I was each and everyone of those characters. Jack Nicholson made this movie outstanding. I say this, because Jack is one of the best actors of the last twenty or thirty years. He makes you believe his character also named Jack, is going insane, and wants you to go insane with him. Maybe this is just me, but this is how the character makes me feel. It's like he is saying come on, going crazy is fun, everyone is doing it. On a scale of 1-10, I give this movie a 9 1/2 stars. Agree if you want, disagree if you want, because everyone has their own opinions and I respect that.
Right now I am in the middle of watching Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. This is a very interesting movie staring Jack Nicholson. He plays a writer named Jack Torance, who has to move with his family to take of a hotel with his wife and son. When they get there, they are given a tour and shown where everything is. While Jack's wife Wendy and son Danny are on the tour of the kitchen and pantry area, one of the workers figures out that Danny has "The Shining." While watching this movie each character has a different problem that helps define them.
The character of Jack is a struggling author, who is a drunk who has trouble controlling his demons. He cannot keep the demon of drinking under control, because he starts drinking and becomes violent again after telling Wendy that he wouldn't. Wendy seems to be a loving wife, who is over trusting and very worry some. She is worried about their son Danny, and the habits that Jack falls into while at the isolated hotel. Wendy seems to be the character you can't stand, but you want to see what she does any way. I know that people will not agree with me, but this is how I feel. Danny is the son that has some troubles. One thing you find out is that he has "a boy that lives in his mouth." He is always seen riding around the hotel on his big wheel. While he is doing that he always sees this two twin girls. There will be a continuation of this blog when I finish the movie.
The movie: Inside Man. The director: Spike Lee. The movie is about four people, who have different versions of the name of Steve; they walk into a bank dressed as painters, and go to rob the bank. While "Steve" is in there, they keep every worker and customer a hostage, and slowly let them out one by one if demands are met, or if they want more demands. The cast of this movie is: Clive Owen, Willem Defoe, Denzel Washington, and Jodie Foster. As the movie goes on we start to find out more and more about the criminals as we do about the police officers. This is a situation that is a struggle for both sides and will make life easier if everything worked the way both sides wanted. I am not going to ruin the ending for any readers out there, but this is a movie that makes you think, that's if you want to, this is the movie for you. How often do movies make you think?
This is my first post of the new year. i don't know if this will actually have anything to do with movies. Will I touch on them? Maybe. Will I talk about them 100%? NO. I don't even know what movies to talk about in this blog. What can I say about movies heading into 2010? I really don't know. I don't even know what movies I am going to see this calendar year. It seems like as of now there are very few movies worth seeing. I know that sounds odd coming from a guy that loves his movies. Right now I will stick with the DVD's that I received for the Christmas holiday. When I finish most of those I will post more blogs about them. I posted about the movie Memento, and I am deciding whether or not I will post about the first part of the Survivor Series Anthology (1987-1991). It is a tough choice, but if I decide to do it I will. Until then over and out!!!!!!!!!
This post is the final post of 2009. This is about the what I think of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. I have to say this film was way different than I though that it would be. I am not saying that it is a extravagant film such as Citizen Kane or Gone With the Wind, but it is a great way to keep an awesome horror movie icon like Freddy Krueger alive. I know many people might think that I am crazy for say that Krueger is one of the best, but I believe that to be true. This movie tells how Freddy comes alive in peoples dreams just like the previous two films, but this time he is attacking the dreams of kids who are in a hospital for other problems that they all have. Technical things like the lighting help tell the story, and help us become one with the characters. It allows you to feel all nervous and it wants you to feel creeped out and scared so that you will hope that this doesn't happen to you. I know the movie is fake, but sometimes it feels good to get a scare. Getting a scare from a movie like this, can make life fun. This movie brings out the fun of the 1980s, and the fun of being scared. Many people may not agree with me.
Memento is a really interesting film about a man named Leonard, who has a memory problem. He has a short term memory problem after there is an accident involving his wife a few years before. His wife is raped and murdered, and because of this he cannot remember anything after this problem. Because of the events involving his wife, he can only retain information for a short period of time. To help try and jog his memory, Leonard keeps notes, and takes pictures of people places and things that he has seen and has been to. As the movie goes on, Leonard tries to find the man named John G. who was suspected of raping and murdering Leonard's wife. While this is happening Leonard has people throwing off track and people trying to help him. This movie certainly screws with your head. It makes you feel like you can guess what is going to happen next, but you can't. The reason why you can't is you see the scene and then you see it again, with a little bit more information added. Another scene is shown, and then it goes back to the original scene and the last bit of information is added which makes everything come together. To paraphrase a Tim Curry line from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, This is a mental mind screw. I have to agree with this. Memento really screws with your head. It really makes you think, like you never thought before. It is hard to keep track of what is really going on. Tell me what you think!!!! I give this film a 9
The new lot of Christmas DVD's has come in. As soon as I start getting done with most of them, I will start writing reviews. This may take a while because there are so many different ones, but I will do what I can to do it. I don't know exactly how there are of you out there reading this, but the reviews will keep coming, They will start slowly, but they will start coming within the next couple of days. So, as soon as this process starts moving, there will be more to follow. Until then, it will be up when it will be up. I honestly know how long it will take me to post all of the movie reviews, but I have a lot of watching to do. For any of you out there who do read this, I just ask for some time, and I will make sure reviews are produced.
I know that there are many different kinds of films out in the world for people to like. Yes, I'll admit it, I have been known to like some bad movies. Yes, everyone else does too; they just do it a lot more than I do. No, I'm not saying that I am going to cut off all communication with these people. Maybe I should with some of them. Again, I'll admit my movie choices aren't always that great, but I have been known to pick out some good movies. A lot of times, I have the conversation of bad movie picking with people at my job. These people will tell me that they are going to see whatever movie it is. It's usually, hell it's always the bad movie. When I tell these people "don't see that, it's crap" they don't believe me. Then, the next time I see them, I get asked "why the hell didn't you convince me to see that?" Of course, my response is "I did you dumbass, but you didn't listen!" Again, I'll say that I do not always pick the greatest movies around. The point that I am getting at is, "listen to the film student, who tells you not to see a piece of shit movie." I know this seems like a lot of rambling and raving and carrying on, but I wanted to get my feelings out there.
S. Darko is the "sequel," or as the movie crew calls it, the "continuation" of Donnie Darko. S. Darko follows Samantha Darko, Donnie's youngest sister on a trip seven years after his death. It tells her story, while she is on a road trip with one of her friends. It has the same concept of Donnie Darko. There is time travel involved, if you are into that type of thing. There are even more connections to the first movie, which I will not speak of if you never saw it. The movie is rather interesting, and easier to follow than the movie Donnie. OK, both were easy to follow, but this one is easier to follow if you saw the first film. This movie has a great story, great characters, a great plot, theme, and many other things. I am not bragging about how great it is, or saying you should go out get the DVD and saying you should watch it. OK I am saying the second part. I feel that you will enjoy this film, because I know I did.
Well. What can I say about the movie AirHeads? The first thing is that for me it is a Thanksgiving tradition. Every year around this time, I watch the movie about three wannabe rock 'n' rollers Chazz (Brendan Fraser), Rex (Steve Buscemi), and Pip (Adam Sandler). This movie tells the story about what happens when these three guys break into a radio station in order to get their song played. While they are there, they hold up the radio station with fake uzi's , which they fill with hot pepper sauce, from the toy store that Rex works in. While they are in the studio, they force Disc Jockey, Ian the Shark to put them on the radio. In the process of being on the radio, a large croup of people show up to support them. The only bad thing is the cops show up, because one of the other workers played by Michael Richards, calls them in to stop what is happening. All in all, they get their song played, but they also got to play their song live from jail.
Well. what can be said about a movie about a game that is two sports in one? Well a lot actually. This movie is about three friends Joe "Air man," "Coop" Coop (Trey Parker), Doug "Sir Swish" Reemer, and Kenny "Squeak," "Little Bitch" Scolari. They are three guys who wind up creating a game that combines baseball and basket ball rules.
Eventually it becomes a national sport, and there are other certain rules about shooting, playing, not trading players, not moving teams to other cites, and so on. Each character is someone that you know or it could be you. Wither way, this movie is funny it makes you laugh, it makes you cry, but you should go out and see this film.
I know I've posted on this movie and series before. The only reason why I am posting again, is because an interesting question was asked of me the other day while watching the remake. Before I get to that, let me just say I watched the original, and remake for a paper, that I have to hand in for an independent study at school. Ok, now I will get to the question that was asked of me. That was "Why did the remake end the way it did?" Before answering that I though of two buddies of mine, and gave an answer they would give. That answer was "It's freaking Planet of the Apes, do you really need a reason?" Yes, I know my answer was a question, but it answer it. Of I get told that answer couldn't be bought at a 99 cent store, but it's just one of those answers that holds up.
Lately, I've been watching plenty of movies. The reason, I am doing an independent study at school and am doing the paper on remakes. IT is an interesting topic to do the paper on, but it is so tedious, to do all this work. All the movie are great, but it's like why do remakes. That is my question? It seems weird, that some movies that most of us have seen were remade. sometimes both films were great, some one was good and one was bad, or both were just bad. Hopefully people can agree with me. Well it's your choice
This is blog pitting Halloween II against Halloween II, which you can plainly see. I am just writing this to say that I saw Rob Zombie's version of this movie today (8/28) or yesterday if you read this after midnight. I thought this movie would be good, but it really wasn't. I just don't know what it was, but I honestly think that the story didn't make much sense. My question is this MR. Zombie: Why stray from the original story? It was fine just the way it was.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed his other movies, but I am not talking about them right now. I am talking about his version of Halloween II compared to John Carpenter and Debra Hill's version. With Hill and Carpenter's version, they pick up where their 1978 version of Halloween ended. It picks up when Loomis played by Donald Pleasance shoots Meyers, and thinks he kills him. Rob Zombies version does not do this. This again leads to the question that I asked above. Go ahead and read it again.
The entire hour and forty-five minutes I was in there, I kept telling myself, "this isn't right, and it doesn't make sense." I will not ruin the story for those of you who haven't seen it, but trust me it doesn't make sense. All I will say is that it doesn't pick up where his remake of Halloween leaves off.
People may or may not agree with me on this, but I think that Richard O'Brien's movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the greatest cult classic movies around. There are many reasons why I say this. Again, many people might not agree with me, but I am going to tell you my readers, if there are any of you, why I love this movie. 1) The story- The story in this movie might be an odd at its best, but I find it enjoyable. It tells about two kids Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon), who get lost after going to a wedding. While driving they make a wrong turn, and wind up by this castle, which is owned by Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry), who they find out many things about. One of the things they found about him that Furter created a man to love. 2) The Characters- Each character bought something to the story. Frank N. Furter is the gay scientist who one of the three main characters. He is the man who runs this castle that Brad and Janet come across when they get lost. Furter has a bunch of servants who work for him 3) Brad and Janet- The two kids who get lost and wind up at the castle and are trapped there. While there, they both try to find their way out, but fail miserably, until the end of the movie until they are saved. They meet every one of Furter's servants while they are in this castle. 4) Riff-Raff, Magenta, and Columbia- These three, how do I put this nicely, "freaks" who work for Frank N. Furter, help him keep, our hero and heroine, in this castle. Throughout the movie, they help out, until the very end. 5) Eddie- Is a motorcycle riding zombie, played by Meatloaf . He has a few moments in the film, but doesn't last very long, and you'll find out why. There are many more reasons. If you'd like to find out what they are ask me.
I just finished watching the new G.I. JOE movie The Rise of the Cobra. I am going to start off by saying that it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible, either. I mean it could have been better if the directors and producers, put in more characters, like the ledgendary Sgt. Slaughter. Having the Sarge in the movie, would have made it even better. No, I'm not saying that because I am a fan of the Sarge, but come on, that's who made GI JOE. Honestly, I feel like having the Sarge in there, could have worked better than having Hawk run everything. To me this would have been great, because in the cartoon world of the JOE's the Sarge had a way of running everything. I honestly would have made the world of the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity a better feel One question if they are the American Hero, why did they save Russia? If you know, tell me, because I want to know, because knowing is half the battle.
When thinking about the 1980s one of the first movies I think of is John Hughes' The Breakfast Club. Many people may or may not do the same, but I know I do.In a way what I think Hughes is trying to do is show us that we're all one of or all of these five people. In a way, I have to agree, that we are all an athlete, a basket case, a princess, a criminal and a brain. We are not these people in every sense of the word, but, we in a way are. I say that, because that's the groups people in high school fit into, whether or not they like it. I also feel that Hughes is trying to tell us, that if we look inside ourselves we can find out who we really are, and we can connect and become friends with anyone if we choose to. We may not have to like someone but we can make an attempt to be like these people and get along and get to know people.
Just recently, I watched the Spike Lee movie She's Gotta Have It. The movie follows the character of Nola Darling, who has to have it. by "it" you know what I mean. The movie follows Nola's troubles of which man, Mars, Jamie, or Greer. Lee allows us to follow the troubles of Nola's story, because in a way he wants us to see that she has a problem, and she either needs to fix it or have something bad happen to her. While watching this, I've noticed the way Lee uses certain camera movements and lighting choices to make the movie work. It makes you really feel that you are those characters, you are on that set, and you want to really want to be part of that story. I honestly think that Spike Lee does this really well. Lee draws you into the story by doing this, so that way you can see and feel what he was going through and feeling while he was writing and making this movie. I honestly don't know what caused Lee to write a movie about a female sex addict, but the story was interesting. It really makes you think about what people are really like in the real world. What I think Lee is trying to say is watch out who you know, because they might not be who you think they are.
And I was deeply disappointed. I thought it was going to be funny, but it really wasn't. I mean Don't get me wrong I liked Epic Movie, and Date Movie, but this one not so much. I honestly don't know what it was. I usually love spoof movies, (i.e. Spaceballs), but I just couldn't get into this. Maybe I'm getting old, maybe I'm losing my sense of humor, maybe my humor is changing. I really cannot say. Yeah, people will look at me as being old, which I might be, but I guess, there is the fact that, it is very hard to make me laugh. I guess that's because of Kevin Smith, and his ever so smart humor, from Clerks on. Now that I look at it, that is a big reason why, but I guess after you're trained to laugh at one thing, you wouldn't laugh at something else unless you turn it in to something smart. Getting Back to Meet the Spartans, I just didn't think that it was funny. I guess it wasn't written well enough to get me to laugh loud and obnoxiously, but it happens sometimes. I didn't laugh. So I guess, they'll have to try harder
How many times do you see an animal as a main character, or a character that the story is focused on? Answer, not to many. Some of the very few films that do that are Jurassic Park, Howard the Duck, and The Jungle book, come to my mind right away. Why? I can't really say. It's just one of these weird things that I think of while being a film student. Is it weird to everyone else? Yes. Do people think that I am weird for thinking about it? Yes. But ya know what? No one else thinks about it. This is one of those topics that can come up between myself and other film students. The reason that it does, is because we have run out of other things to talk about. It does seem weird to everyone else, but we enjoy it because, again how often do you see this, or how many times do you get to talk about what the animals represent instead of people. Now when you readers (if there are any of you), who will read this, will start to think about this now. Don't get me wrong it seems logic to think about this, if you must. In the words of NIKE, "Just do it!"
Yesterday, I had watched the comedy film FanBoys. To me it was a very funny movie. I am not being Biased because I know the guy Dan Pulick who came up with the story and worked on some of the script. I honestly thought the story was good. The first reason why is because, FanBoys proves to us that all of love something from our childhood, whether or not we admit it. Sometime if we love something enough we should go for it, even if we fail. Another reason why I liked this film is because it teaches us that sometimes we need to reconnect with people and places that we lost connections to while trying to grow up and move out into the real world. These are two of the many things that I learned from this movie, and hope that people can learn the same things whether or not they enjoy FanBoys."
Yeah, I know movies from the ‘80s are corny, and maybe dumb to kids now a days. But, to tell you the truth they don’t know what they’re missing. Yeah, these movies may have bad stories, characters a much more working against them, but it happens. How do I say this? Being a film student, I feel that kids born in the 1990s should really watch movies from the 1980s. Yeah, they’ll think they’re weird, but it will bring a form of entertainment to everyone. I think it will show them that not all blockbusters had CGI, special effects, and sharks with laser beams attached to the tops of their frickin’ heads. I know this may make oldity (As someone nicely put it), kick in, but what else can I say? The reason I bring this up is because I am watching the 1980s classic Adventures in Babysitting. It got me to think about how 1980s movie can and are better than a lot of other movies that have come out in the last ten to fifteen years. No, I’m not saying that ‘90s movies are bad, some are and some aren’t, but we can’t fix that. Do I expect everyone to agree with me on this? No! But I know you’ll to the death my right to say it. Agree if you want, disagree if you have to, but just remember on things. Balls in your mouth, bust if ya must!!
I know the summer is coming and the blockbusters are making their way into the theaters, but are all of these movies going to be blockbuster? Some yes, some maybe, and some absolutely not. The reason why I say this is because all of these movies get hyped up for release and people go and spend their twelve dollars on a tickets and either really like the movie, or be totally devastated by it.
Continuing on with this topic of discussion, which usually ends with me arguing with someone about what will be a good summer blockbuster, people always find out that I am right, but won’t tell me. I bring this up because I always have these coital debates with people at work. Of course, they choose not to believe me when I tell them, so I let then suffer. I tell them, “Oh______(whoever it is), don’t see that movie. It’s going to be bad.” What happens, they see it, they waste their money, and then they tell me, “you’re the film student, why didn’t you tell me?” I did but they didn’t listen. This happens every year when the summer blockbusters come out.
What I’m really trying to get at is why wouldn’t you listen to the FILM STUDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Just curious? So guess what? I’ll just let you waste your money on shitty movies.
I guess the main reason I am writing this blog, is for my great hatred and dislike of Woody Allen movies. People may ask me why I strongly dislike Mr. Allen and his film, and I tell them as nicley as possible "He makes me feel like my brain is leaking out of my ears." I am not saying they have to like my favorite director Kevin Smith, but at least he has some humor to him. Woody Allen's movies take what feels like forever, forever, FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know people may like his films, but to me they are worse than getting kicked in the nut sack, and that is pretty painful. All I am saying is people wake up and smell the coffee, Allen is possibly one of the worst filmmakers ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are a group of people trying to save the world, when the super heroes we count on aren’t there. These people are a fork-wielding hero known as the Blue Raja, The Bowler, who throws a bowling ball with her dead father’s skull in it, a “gas specialist,” known as the Spleen, an enraged man known as Mr. Furious, The Shoveler, who does damage with hit shovel, and the Invisible Kid.
They are out to save the world, after Cassanova, and his Disco Boys killed Captain Amazing. Nobody believes that they could do it, but they prove them wrong. With a little hard work, and learning how to use their weapons correctly, they become the ultimate fighting team.
Yes, you know that they are going to prevail in the end, but it’s like you want everything to be easy for them, even though you know it won’t be. I have to say that after seeing this movie for the first time in 10 years, I enjoyed it. It made me laugh in some spots, but this made me wonder why I didn’t like it in the first place.
Super hero movies are pretty cool, if you think about it. I know everyone love the Spiderman, Superman, Ironman, Incredible Hulk movies. I agree they are good, but one movie that I will give a review of, when I am done watching it is Mystery Men. For those of you who don't know, that stars Ben Stiller, Janeane Garafalo, William H. Macy, Kel Mitchell (Keenan and Kel Fame), Paul Rubens (Pee-wee Herman Fame), and many more. I honestly think that think that is is better than a lot of other super hero movies, because, to me it allows us to see the uprising of smaller unknown heroes. People may look at me like I am crazy, but I think this is true. It has been about 10 years since I've seen Mystery Men, ehich came out during my junior year of High school (which would make me old by some peoples standards). I will finish watching it and let everyone know what I think, and wether or not there should be a sequel, even though it is 10 years later. Sure, people are saying I am crazy for saying that, but guess what, I don't care.
I hate it when I have conversations about remakes. People who I know and work with will tell me "Oh this movie is good!" They get mad at me when I tell them "Oh I saw this movie when it was.." Why because I am telling you that you have no idea what you mean.
An example of this when I was talking to one girl about I Am Legend. She told me it was a good movie and that I should go and see it. I told her I did see when it was first released as the Last Man on Earth Starring Vincent Price. I also told her that I also told her I saw it the second time when it was released as the Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston.
She gets mad at me and tells me that I'm being a jerk, and I was like why? Is it because I told you don't listen to the film student!!
Right now there aren't too many good movies out there. What I mean is, there are horrible movies, which were funny when I saw them when I was twelve, for example this new movie with Seth Rogen. You know, this one were he is a mall cop. The fat guy already did that was from King of Queens. This movie was similar to something I saw when I was twelve. Here’s an example it’s not a great one, but Liar, Liar starring Jim Carrey. Same movie, different jobs same outcome. A guy, who hates his job, makes fun of it and the possibility of things working out in the end.
I bring this up because it happens, and when I tell people, “Oh, I saw this movie when it was….” They get mad at me. For example, this one girl I work with tells me I am Legend was a good movie, I told her “it was better the first time I saw it as The Last Man on Earth.” She then gets mad at me and I tell her “it also better the second time when I saw it as the remake Omega Man.” She gets mad at me even more. I know it’s annoying that I do this, but I am trying to educate people on film and movies a bit, before they say some jackass-y movie is good.
Another example of a movie that is supposed to be good is Watchmen, nope, no way, no how, saw this a long time ago when it was called Masters of the Universe. Sorry folks, but as a film major, I can tell simply by the commercials that something is good, and Watchmen wasn’t.For me sitting through a bad movie like this one, which I didn’t, The Breakup, or Deconstructing Harry is like getting kicked in the no-no parts over and over.
One other thing on this, I hate people tell me oh some movie is going to be good, I tell them it’s not, they don’t listen, go out see it and waste there money. The best this is afterwards they come back and tell me it’s my fault they saw a bad movie. Bullshit! Pardon my French; you have a mind of your own to either see the movie, or listen to a guy who knows movies.
